Talk with friends, family members, teachers, and school counselors to learn more about the college experience and what features may interest you.
Take the PSAT/NMSQT
The PSAT is used to determineeligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program . It also serves as a practice test for the SAT, but be aware that you can't submit PSAT scores to colleges as your standardized test scores.
Estimate Your Financial Aid Need
Financial aid can help you afford college. Use the College Board's Getting Financial Aid and the financial aid calculator to estimate how much aid you may receive.
Winter
Be Prepared to Take the SAT in the Spring
All Juniors will take the SAT School Day Exam at EVHS in April, but you can also register online to take National State Exams. To prepare for the SAT, you can access free, personalized practice tools on SATpractice.org or Khan Academy.
College Search
Continue to gather college information and begin to generate a list of schools you may be interested in applying to.
Stay Involved
Continue to stay involved in sports, extracurriculars, volunteer work, etc.
Spring
Visit/Virtual Visit
Schedule college visits and/or tours - this will give you the best representation of what a college/university is like. You will be able to see what you like and don't like out of a college.
Create a List
Develop a list of schools (10-15) that interest you - You can find many colleges at which you'll be happy and get a great education. The college search is about exploring who you are and what you want and then finding colleges that will meet your goals.
Stay Open to all Possibilities
To find the best college for you, you should apply to colleges of varying selectivity. It may be helpful to apply to public, private, in-state, and out of state schools so that you have plenty of options from which to choose.
